The intent was to develop a system-based solution called SAAYA, designed for
hospital environments. The concept draws on the human fight-or-flight response, aiming to provide the
female worker with an extra moment of reaction time during high-stress or threatening situations. SAAYA is
not a single product, but a holistic approach that includes environmental cues, design strategies, and
spatial interventions to create a sense of preparedness, alertness, and control.
Part of the project involved designing furniture and interior elements in line with SAAYA’s visual and
functional language. The intention was to create a subtle but effective network of spatial reinforcements
that empower the user rather than alarm them. The goal was to make safety feel natural and integrated
into everyday workflows rather than something abrupt or fear-based.
