Overview

This project was introduced to us by the Specialist Modelling Group of Foster+Partners Organisation. The intent was to propose interventions tackling Urban Heat Island effect within the context of Delhi with the series of enquiry: indigenous and rooted/alternative approaches, climate consciousness, elements- light, heat, air and sustainability.

Reflection

Urban Heat Island is a phenomenon we experience everyday but still are unaware of. So in order to sucessfully build something, our first step was to have enough research done and also look at the existing case studies that have mitigated it already. Then, knowing about what the indigenous approaches to heat management are and how could they be incorporated in our concept was a part of the scope of our research. To build something meaningful, we tried to reduce our area of implementation and chose to provide more contextually sound solutions, which in our case was Bawana, which is the biggest industrial area in Delhi-NCR. With all the research done, we came up with EcoVent, which is an Eco-Friendly Insulation that works to manage the heat produced by a building in large amounts and tries to reduce the harsh effects on the environment.
